Happy New Year from London! Many happy returns and I hope this year is better than the last.
I will admit: I have not been posting much on this blog. Largely because I intended it to be a strictly climate/environment film blog, and there isn't a massive abundance of similarly themed films coming out (though I know it's definitely a hot topic). I've also been busier than I expected to be.
So I'm now going to be posting general film reviews, along with the occasional thinkpiece and review on climate related cinema in order to stay true to the theme. It makes this blog a bit less novel, but it also gives me more to say on film overall and provides you with a better rounded view of my tastes. It also gives me opportunity to post more often on here, as I now have much less of an excuse.
Also!
We're now in the middle of the decade - time moves fast! - I'm going to be entering the last year of my twenties this year (I'm having a bit of a crisis about it, as you do). We've essentially reached the peak of the decade, which can be safely defined by economic and societal insecurity. We're starting a year with a new wave of anxiety and unrest. Things don't seem to be going well environmentally or politically; the film industry is also in shambles, and AI is wrecking the planet, our psyches, and our jobs.
However, I remain optimistic that human empathy will always gain a foothold, even in places where it seems to be absent. Hopefully this will also translate into an exciting new stage of filmmaking (with as little AI as possible) with interesting artistic characteristics.
Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better, let's hope the worst of it is swift and short lived.
I don't typically subscribe to New Year's resolutions but I think it's fun to see how long you last before you inevitably give up or forget. I've made a promise to myself to go to the gym more! Cliche, but hey it's a start.
How about you? Anything at all?
